| Champion Hill ....... by William Barraud£12,000.00 William Barraud, a contemporary of Herring Snr. was English, although of Hugenot descent, elder brother to Henry, also a sporting painter, and related to Phillip, a master clockmaker, who made parts for the famous Mudge chronometer : a later Barraud painted Nipper, the celebrated HMV logo. This fine painting, is signed and dated 1833 : it has been recently re-lined, and the period frame has been restored and re-gilded. On the back the stretcher is inscribed - William Barraud -, and also the horse's name is given as Champion Hill ........... ( the last part indecipherable). |
