| George Lewis + Eureka Brass Band£0.00 The one and only Eureka Brass Band had a long life, flourishing from the 1920s until after 2nd World War. It was like a local football team, whose members would come and go, and that would turn out on a Sunday, or other special occasion (carnival, lodge meeting,Labor Day, or parade). A high point in the Band's history, is the George Lewis era, when the Eureka Brass Band included all time greats such as Sonny Henry, Red Clark and Kid Shots. Because these New Orleans Bands, were marching Bands, there was an obvious difficulty in making a recording, which is normally done in a studio : however, this original recording on the Melodisc label, is live, and appears to be outdoors, since you can hear the Band follwowers, but presumably , not marching. The record sleeve notes state that this is an original recording, but does not say, when or where the recording was made - presumably, New Orleans, early 1950s. |
