| Japan Boys Day doll£295.00 This charmig doll, beautifully kitted out in authentic Japanes dress, and housed within an original limed oak case, datesfrom the 1920s. The costume is a little faded, and the front panel of the case has been replaced, otherwise all is original and in good order. Boy's Day in Japan is on May 5th and is an ancient tradition celebrating Kintaro, a legendary Boy Warrior, who grew up to be a famous general. The festival promotes strong growth,prowess and bravery, and on Boy's Day, the dolls are displayed in alcoves, with Samurai helmets, swords and banners, and the festival is also marked with special party foods, i.e. sweetmeats etc. |
