| Torcross by Edward Ertz£975.00 inc. VAT Edward Ertz 1862 - 1954. Born in Illinois, USA, Professor of Painting and Drawing, Delecluse Academy Paris, 1892-1899. He is known to have painted in Devon and Cornwall in the early part of the 20th Century and paintings are known of Polperro, Yealmton, Kingsbridge and Torquay. This charming pastel of Torcross in moonlight, does not show the coast road, or the Dartmouth Day Mark. It is ironic that it was painted by an American because this idyllic and tranquil scene was transformed in 1944, into the US army D day practise landing location and you can imagine the noise and feverish activity with tanks, blank artillery shells, landing craft, battle troops, and shouts of command etc. etc. |
