Turquoise was held in high regard by the South West American peoples, especially the Navaho. Because of its colour, it was associated with life, water and plant growth. This cuff is an older piece, maybe 1930s -1950s, and the Turquoise are probably older, having been handed down from older family members. The fan shapes, represent eagle feather bonnets : as well as power, the eagle feather had healing qualities and was much used as a ritual symbol.
