The Dragonfly had much ritual significance to the South West American Peoples : it was associated with water, the spring of life, which in a semi desert country had huge importance. Also, the dragonfly could ascend to the Spirit World in the sky, and so Shamans used it as an icon of their power and so association with the Dragonfly would give them the facility to find water for instance, or transcend to the spirit world. This Dragonfly brooch is a Santa Fe design, and made from unusual Gasparite and sterling silver. The collar is also sterling silver.
