Old Santo Domingo Turquoise/sterling cuff

South West American peoples have worn Turqoise since time imemorial : it had spiritual power which was associated with growth and life - in a mostly desert environment, growing crops was difficult, and so wearing Turqouise which embodied the colours of plant growth and lake water, would give the wearer, power to grow and irrigate crops successfully. Silver came to the area around 100 years ago, from the South, and so turqoise is shown off with fine sterling silver settings, as is the case with this cuff - or bangle. This is an older piece, maybe made in the 1950s, - such pieces are hard to find, and are not normally found in the UK.
